Hit the Road Dude Meme: Origin & Meaning
Last updated:
The Hit the Road Dude meme, also called the state property meme or the private property meme, comes from a short TikTok video of a man in a white pickup confronting people fishing on his pond.
The original clip
The camera films from the bank as the pickup pulls up. A fisherman says he thought it was state property. The driver repeats "State?" with disbelief, says it is private property and tells them to hit the road. The deadpan timing made the clip quotable.

Best results: one person or one pet, face clearly visible and facing the camera, even light. Avoid group photos, sunglasses and heavy filters. People keep the original voice; pets get an AI voice saying the same lines.

How it became a meme
People started quoting the lines, stitching the clip and remixing the audio. Over time the phrases "State?", "This is private property" and "Hit the road, dude" became shorthand for telling someone they are not welcome.
The AI remake trend
In October 2026 the AI version took over: the scene stays the same, but the driver is replaced with someone else or with a pet. That is what Hit the Road Dude App makes, from one photo.
A note on the people in the video
Hit the Road Dude App is not affiliated with the people in the original clip or its creator. AI versions are parodies; do not present them as real footage.
